My piano playing?

I've been teaching myself a bit of the ol' piano, and have come up with a little choon. It's pretty limited right now as I only know a handful of chords, but here it is. It's kind of slow, but I'm going to record it with some drums at some point, probably at a faster pace. Anyway, I recorded it this afternoon on a school piano, using my minidisc, whilst waiting for a student. Spot the mistakes, heh. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Great first attempt Rudy! Naturally, there are minor mistakes but I like the development of the melody.
Its so important for drummers to learn piano or something else melodic. Unfortunately I don't play myself, so that's about as sophisticated as my critique will get. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

How have you been teaching yourself? I'm trying and havent found any good ways about goin it. sounds pretty good!

Thanks. kurt, I literally just mess around at the pianos at the schools I go to. There's usually one in the room I teach in, so over the years, I've just sat down and tried to find some sort of structure of notes that form rich chords. I mean, all the music we at HoD listen to, some of it rubs off, and for me, I always loved piano. Like richard tee, stevie wonder, a lot of gospel chords as well! So I try and find chords like those guys, in the same way we listen to a great drum lick and try and work it out. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Wow, there's a little bit of development with my tune. [img]biggrin.gif[/img] A friend who writes and produces very slick house tunes and who already has a single out doing the dance clubs, likes my song. Listen to the very last thing I play on my piano piece at exactly 2:04, the last 2 chords.:

I took that, sped it up, and looped it. Which produced this :

My friend then took that, plus some of the rest of the tune with a bit of his own as well, added drums, bass and vocals, just tonight in fact, and produced this:

It's basically become a deep house mix which is pretty much what I had in mind to do all along. This was done in like one hour, and the final mix should be a LOT better. He wants me to redo my bit through midi, with a rhodes sound for better quality. I'm pretty excited though. I mean if this gets to play in the clubs, it'll be the first time I've been a part of a record that I co-wrote. I know this is not too many peoples taste here but what do you think anyway?
